Children Stories: The Secret of the Old Fortress

The Secret of the Old Fortress In a quiet village surrounded by wide green hills, three inseparable friends lived: Zaid, curious and with a vivid imagination; Laila, brave and able to face any hardship with a smile; and Samer, quiet and methodical, who always carried a useful flashlight and a magnifying glass. Summer vacation had just begun, and the village was full of legends about an abandoned fortress perched on the western hill—a fortress said to have been built centuries ago, hiding within its walls treasures left behind by an ancient explorer. The three friends decided that this vacation would mark the beginning of their greatest adventure to explore the fortress and uncover its mystery. The Beginning: Into the Unknown On a bright morning, the three packed their small bags, filling them with water, pieces of sandwiches, and a map they had drawn themselves based on ancient ruins found in Zaid’s grandfather's library. They set off along a narrow path flanked by dense oak trees. Zaid waved his stick excitedly and said, "The elders say that whoever enters the fortress never leaves without a new puzzle to solve. Are you ready?" Laila answered with confidence: "Of course! Fear isn't in our dictionary today." Meanwhile, Samer smiled quietly, adjusting his backpack strap, and said, "The important thing is to follow the clues carefully; randomness has no place in real adventures." After an hour of continuous walking and strenuous climbing, the fortress loomed before them like a sleeping ancient stone monster. Its black stone walls were covered in thick ivy, and its massive wooden door stood slightly ajar, as if cautiously inviting them inside. Inside the Walls: The Puzzles Begin Samer pushed the heavy wooden door, and it let out a long squeak that filled the space with awe. They stepped inside carefully, surrounded by the scent of dust and history. They switched on their flashlights to pierce the gloom. The grand hall was vast, with massive spiderwebs hanging from the ceiling. On the opposite wall, Laila noticed strange carvings of animals and stars. Laila examined them closely and said, "Look at these carvings; they seem to be arranged in a specific order." Samer stepped closer with his magnifying glass and said, "They aren't just random carvings; they are direction symbols. The eagle points north, the lion points east..." Their conversation was interrupted by the sound of a stone sliding slightly. Suddenly, a section of the stone floor beneath Zaid's feet shifted! Zaid gasped in surprise and nimbly stepped back, saying: "Phew! My foot almost fell right into a hole!" Samer and Laila bent down to investigate and discovered that the moving tile had covered an old, dusty metal box. The Surprise of the Old Box With extreme caution, the three friends worked together to lift the heavy lid of the box. Inside, there was no gold or jewelry as Zaid had imagined, but something far more exciting: * An old leather-bound journal. * A shiny brass compass that worked with wondrous precision. * A small, beautiful brass key. Laila opened the journal. The pages were written in a neat, elegant handwriting from a bygone era. She read in a quiet voice: > "To whoever finds this relic... The true treasure is not what is gathered, but the friendship and courage you showed while searching for it. Open the secret door behind the guardian statue to find the joy of discovery." > The three looked at each other with wide smiles. They realized that the treasure was not material gold, but the journey of exploration itself. The Final Discovery and Exit Following the instructions, they searched behind the stone statue in the corner of the hall and found a small hidden door that the brass key unlocked smoothly. The door led them directly to a back balcony overlooking the entire village from above. The view was breathtaking as the sun slowly set, painting the sky in shades of red and gold. The three friends sat on the edge of the balcony, sharing their sandwiches and laughing about how brave they had been. They had proven to themselves and the village that a true adventure doesn't require superpowers—only sharp minds, brave hearts, and loyal friends standing together against the unknown.
